Weigh your odds…
Are you considering cutting out the staff party this year to save money? While you may save a small amount in the short term take into consideration the long term impact and cost that could result….
Staff appreciation, recognition and rewards are essential to employee engagement and productivity. By taking away the holiday party, you may well be risking decreasing morale, decreasing engagement & productivity loss, which in the long run will cost you significantly more than a simple party or dinner.
Happy employees, who feel appreciated and recognized are more likely to be loyal, interested, engaged and want to produce the best results for the organization.
Consider another alternative…
If the financial crisis is impacting your ability to hold the annual social, let your staff know. That’s right; let them know your concerns and considerations. Collaborate with your staff. Study after study shows the importance people place in having the ability to contribute to decisions that impact them. Let your staff know that the financial crisis is impacting your ability to hold a holiday party. Let them know that you appreciate the work they do and the effort they put in for the organization and that you need their help. Ask them for their ideas on how to resolve the issue.
Your staff may amaze you with the solutions they can find and by giving them the control of the situation, they will no longer blame you for the results. Stay involved in the process; work along side them to find a solution. Let them know what your bottom line commitment can be.
Turn that negative into a positive…
With involvement, your team will feel a sense of ownership over the issue and the resulting solution. This approach will help you build morale, build engagement and increase the loyalty of your people.
And…Your holiday social may be the best one yet.
